Matan Hazanov, Managing Director
Prior to joining Verstra Ventures, Matan spent 6 years building startups as an entrepreneur, advisor, and investor. In his prior role as a venture investor, Matan was a key player in many investments in the software, cleantech, and agtech industries in North America and Israel. His unique approach resulted in the formation of new companies, initiatives and non-traditional deals. As Managing Director of Verstra, Matan leads the team in sourcing, investing and managing its portfolio of investment. Matan has an International BBA from the Schulich School of Business.

Justin Dunnion, Analyst
Before joining Verstra Ventures, Justin spent over 3 years working for Ernst & Young as a management consultant. He was a key contributor on high-profile digital transformation, outsourcing strategy, buy-side M&A and healthcare strategy engagements across many industries, including: utilities, government and public sector, food and beverage, entertainment and real estate. Justin is involved in finding great companies, investment due diligence, and portfolio support. Justin has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Queen’s University.

David has more than 20 years of experience in analyzing, investing in and operating technology companies. As the Managing Director of Terracap Ventures, David developed the firm's overall corporate strategy and deal review process, and led the team in making 12 investments. Prior to joining Terracap, David was a top-ranked technology analyst for Canadian investment banks including Mackie Research Capital, CIBC, Desjardins and First Marathon, providing insightful research into technology companies. His operational experience includes roles as CFO at several start-ups including Cavet and Beam Networks. David received his CFA designation and completed his MBA at the Schulich School of Business.

Emil Savov, Managing Director, MaRS IAF
Dr. Emil Savov has over 25 years of experience in the tech sector, encompassing industry, investment banking and venture capital roles. He has a strong VC investment track record achieved over a 20-year period while working as a senior investment management professional at Fonds de Solidarité FTQ, Terracap Ventures, McLean Watson Capital, and Ciena Ventures. Over the years, he has served as board director for 15 technology companies, and on the advisory boards of several VC funds. Emil holds a PhD degree in electrical engineering from the University of Ottawa in Canada, and an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.

Karl Schabas, General Partner, Constellation VMS Ventures
Constellation VMS Ventures is a venture fund of Constellation Software. Before this role, Karl built Verstra as its Managing Director and lead the team for 4 years, closing 10 investments during his tenure. Prior to Verstra, Karl spent eight years as the Chief Strategy Officer at Volaris, an operating group of Constellation Software. Karl provided consulting and training to help companies grow and maximize their performance. He also assisted with new product initiatives at many companies in the portfolio. The experiences and techniques learnt from this role form the backbone of Verstra’s best practices. Karl has a master’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Toronto and an MBA from London Business School.

Mark Miller, Director and COO of Constellation Software, CEO of Volaris Group
Mark Miller joined Constellation Software after selling his successful software business, Trapeze Group, , over 20 years ago. After Trapeze Group became Constellation’s first acquisition, Mark has since built its largest operating business unit, Volaris Group. Mark oversees more than 120 software businesses and thousands of employees. As well, he provides strategic vision and leadership at Constellation as its COO and a member of the board of directors. Additionally, Mark remains CEO of Trapeze, one of the largest companies in the world selling software to transit agencies. He maintains his connection to early-stage software companies as an advisor and board director in several startups. Mark received a B.Sc. in Statistics and a B.Sc. in Mathematics from McMaster University and an Executive Marketing Program at the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario.
